LAND BANK TEAM EMERGE CHAMPION IN BANKERONG PINOY CUP 2009
Riyadh, KSA – Ten weeks of lawn tennis competition among the local bankers in Riyadh along with the members of Pinoy Netters Club 102 (Philippine Embassy Accredited Tennis Club), the Land Bank Team grabbed the prestigious and highly coveted championship trophy at the Bankerong Pinoy Cup 2009 Team Tennis Tournament held at the Al Yamama Hotel tennis courts.
The team composed of Romy Penaflor, Neil Perez, Lino Samaniego, Richmond Lagrito, Leo Gervacio, Jun Flores (Team Captain), Raffy Villamin, Michael Gracia, Arnel Sanchez, Jun Baylon (Asst. Team Captain), Nasil Kalayakan, Manny Dagohoy, Rino Larena, Syed Baqar, Vivencio Manansala and N. K. Sabapathy. The Land Bank Team reaped a total of 526 overall game points with (41) sets won during the entire tournament after upsetting BPI Team during the championship game in their bid to capture the crown.
The efforts of BPI Team who earned 510 game points with (40) sets won were not enough to maneuver the champions. Bong Bueta (Asst. Team Captain), Ronnie Bigtas, Ronnie Oliver (Team Captain), Sergio Arriola, Bernie Ustani, Abet Mendoza, Tony Monter, Marc Navarro, Edgar Estoesta, Mirza Baig, Tony Fernandez, Carlito Galido, Abdulwajid, Ed Pesigan, Oscar Rivadeneria and Marvin Tebar comprised the BPI Team.
BDO Team took the 2nd runner-up trophy having earned 504 game points with (44) set points. The team comprised of Robert Miranda, Ernan Santiago (Team Captain), Ed Robillos, Steve Marpuri, Mike Shariff, Rajdiemer Daggi, Roel Genson, Chito Umandal, Ding Perez (Asst. Team Captain), Gem Beringuel, Michel Avila, Ferdie Ramos, Vic Agregado, Manny Almentado, Neil Danao and Jimmy Mandria.
Meanwhile, the RCBC Team was diminished by finishing eight (8) crucial game points against BDO Team during the 10th week and last encounter game thereby depriving the team for the trophy. The team was unable to sustain its final game against BDO having earned only with 496 game points with (41) set points. Members of RCBC are: Rolly Barrozo, Benrulph Corvera, Ed Sarmiento, Jerome Corpuz (Asst. Team Captain), Louie Banaga, Ed Gangat, Art Bumatay, Dodie Vizcarra, S. Srinivas, Ramon Eugenio, Rogie Calub, Chris Garcia, Boy Rogel, (Team Captain), Edong Aves, Dinan Guinto and Fernan.
Other participating teams are Metro Bank Team composed of Ricky Ortega, Manny Obligado, Ric Camara, Ting Banday, Roger Llamido, Vic Capulong (Asst. Team Captain), Guilbert Masias, Sunoj Thomas, Nick Real, Allan Bayos, Elser Penamante, Louie Pantig, Frank Orias (Team Captain), Hani Ragheb, Jesus Lim and Randolph Dalisay.
PNB Team comprised the following members: Alfred Pastolero, Tony Yap, Jun Tingzon, Dong Calub, Norberto Nacional, Charles Gavino, Rey Atienza, Roel Morato, Ernest Lorenzana, Benny Daguplo, Charlie Sevilla, Ver Rubio, Jawahar Savarithumu, Fidel Ferrer, Ace Allen Gabriel and Alan.
Trophies were also awarded to the Best Players in their respective categories: Alfred Pastolero and Tony Yap of PNB Team for A1-A2; Ed Sarmiento and Jerome Corpuz of RCBC for A3-A4; Mike Shariff and Rajdiemer Daggi of BDO for B1-B2; Guilbert Masias and Sunoj Thomas of Metro Bank for B3-B4; Ernest Lorenzana and Benny Daguplo of PNB for B5-B6; Nasil Kalayakan and Manny Dagohoy Land Bank for B7-B8; Savarithumu and Fidel Ferrer of PNB for B9-B10 and Dinan Guinto and Fernando Adem of RCBC for C1-C2 category.
During the closing ceremony, Roel Genson, Ernan Santiago, Bong Bueta, Tony Monter and Jun Baylon awarded the trophies to the winning teams and best players category. While Dodie Vizcarra noted for his showmanship delighted the crowd took charge of distributing the minor door prizes, assisted by Edgar Estoesta. The major door prizes were both awarded by Roel Genson, Chairman of the Bankers Cup 2009 and Ernan Santiago, current President of the Pinoy Netters Club 102.
